Let me start here by asking the more modest of readers, do you think you are good-looking? And sexy?
Why is it, most people would probably answer “no” to at least one of these questions? Indeed, it is very British to not be overt about oneself. Modesty almost seems like a national pastime. But does this make it false modesty?
To my mind there is a big difference between being brash and cocky and having quiet self-confident and feeling self-assured. However, if one is self-confident does this mean one cannot also be positive about one’s own appearance?
I do think, despite the British obsession against anyone who is successful or confident, there is nothing wrong in having confidence in oneself. It does not mean one goes around telling everyone how gorgeous they are or that one is God’s gift. Actually, if one gets the balance correct, it should be evident to those all around you what you are really about.
Indeed, often those around us will be more aware of our attributes than we are ourselves. I know from personal experience how the ladies I have met will often tell me things about me I either did not know or did not appreciate. However, then I have sometimes found it hard to comprehend this view and it would be easy to misinterpret this as false modesty.
Those who feel the need to tell everyone else how amazing they are, to my mind, are normally trying to convince themselves foremost.
So if you feel sexy and you know it, be proud an don’t be too frightened to show it………..but just not too loudly!!!
